Objects may be closer than they appear

May 8th, 2008

I’ve had it up to here with all your whining, whining, whining.

I didn’t sleep last night and you need to go to bed right now.

I want you to listen to how everything you say starts with “I want.”

I wish you wouldn’t always be wishing for something else.

I have to do everything around here and nobody gives me a break.

Don’t make me say this one more time.

Just be quiet!

  1. Have you been eavesdropping at my house?

  2. How about:

I’m cold. Put on a sweater!

I enjoyed these. Very subtle and unfortunately familiar.

  3. Ah, this rings so true. My brother-in-law has banned the word “want” from their household. He treats it as profanity. Often the rigidness and unforgiving nature of their household bugs me but I can see some of the reasoning behind it.

I wonder, though, if he can turn off the want in his own mind. I suspect not.

  4. It is so comforting to be on the crooked path at the same time you are.

  6. I actually said yesterday that “outside is broke” followed by “Daddy has outside.”

So, no, we can’t go outside in our pajamas before we even eat breakfast!

This post is like a warm cup of coffee to me. Thank you. I needed to know that I’m not the only one, too.

  7. Well, yeah…everything but things like “YOU are making mommy nuts”

Does that count? sigh…I know I know.

  8. Wendy, I’m here to tell you that you (and each of us) are the only one, but we have a lot of company among us!

  11. Yeah, I try to be sure that those comments only occur in my head and not out loud if they happen, but whew. Some days. When my three year old said to his brother “please stop acting like a whack job”, I knew…I had sprung a leak.

  12. They all resonate! I was a much better parent before I had kids!

  13. “You all are going to miss me when I leave and move to Spain. Alone. I will change my name so no one can find me. Then you’ll see… you’ll see.”

That’s the one I use far too often.

  14. I understand now why my dad used to say, “I’m going to eat worms and die if you girls don’t shut up.”

  15. “I’m not going to tell you again!”

Needed this more than I can say.

  16. Whew…I needed this…sometimes the noise of motherhood is overwhelming.

  17. My dad used to make a face and say to me, “You’re all the time talking, but you’re not saying anything.”

    So true.
