They also serve

What can be said? Can the world be more insane? More predictably inhumane? More corrupt? More abrupt? More aflame? More inane?

In the darkness of this dark world, oceans away, I’ve said my piece. I penned it too. And although time still stands before the day, I’ve stood with other mothers, encircled in strength and multiplied by each our own true account: Enough.

Forever enough, until the seas gather and swell into an irreversible tide of we.

Who only stand and wait.

One voice among those in this forthcoming title, which will not arrive in time to soften the long shadows of this day, but to enlighten and uplift another.

  1. Awesome! I can’t wait to check it out. I saw the request for submissions and in another time in my life probably would have been aiming for it myself. I’m in the background speaking my peace to the television each night — and to the Hubs, of course.

  2. That has been on my mind for the past 24 hours as well. And then I see my little boys and just wonder what I can do to help keep them safe into the future and who knows what. But I can’t. I just hope that focusing on right action and peace in our lives will impact their lives enough that they can make the best decisions and do what they think is right as they become male adults in a chaotic world. Gulp. Interesting looking book!

  3. I feel this. And at the same time I read of the family murdered in Washington. And my stomach clenches and feels so sick.

But I breathe. And I observe. And love.

I look forward to this book…a little post partum reading, perhaps?? I just loved your book. It has helped me through these rough moments. Thank you so much. My husband has been reading it, too. Through his Aikido training in downtown L.A. he began investigating?living?practicing? zen. This week, which has been really hard, he has been quoting things from you book…reminding me.

AND…do you go to Yoga Kingdom Sanctuary??? DO you know Naader? I lived in L.A. from 1996-2004. I studied with Naader and became a yoga teacher, apprenticing under him for a year! Oh, if you go there ever, tell him MaryBeth (MB) says she loves him dearly.

    Peace Peace Peace

  6. I don’t know what it is about getting older that makes me want to make “positive social change” a verb. It all seems so overwhelming, maybe this book will spark some understanding.

  8. Shannon: my only thought is that we start where we are, as we are. I didn’t think I had any interest or input into this topic, until I realized that my very life presented me with all the opportunity I needed to demonstrate my democratic values.
