Last week someone asked me what it meant to raise children the Buddhist way. I sent them this:

The look in your eyes, or better, your whole being, that responds to Georgia as soon as she appears in front of the camera: such love moves me to tears.
Thank you for posting this, for smiling in abundance and for telling us moms out there we’re not crazy!

Absolutely lovely and wise. Thank you for reminding me not run around looking for answers for I might miss the show. And yes, they continue to grow in spite of us.

Thank you. i’ve been struggling with going back to work full time, and i realize I have been fortunate to watch the show for 6 years and I still don’t want to miss any of it! And yet, I want to have ‘my’ story as well, the show of me and what I can do outside of being a mother. The balancing act.

In spite of what you think you transmitted in terms of content in this video, Karen, your frequent eruption of laughter is the most instructive. I miss you. I’m not doing so well.

I awakened very early this August morn, with that second head worrying away. Came to my office, and watched you, and your beautiful daughter, and your dog. Thank you for sharing this very personal glimpse into your life. I am so deeply touched by your generosity, and once again have shared “you” with my friends.

Wow- your laugh grounds and loosens me instantly.
Brings the Boston retreat all back in a tsunami wave.
Love your video. Thanks for the dose of inspiration!

Thank you so much for giving us a glimpse of your life and your beautiful daughter. Make more videos! The peace and teachings you transmit are like a healing, soothing reminder. It’s like we know it, but it’s grains of sand slipping through our fingers–too slippery to constantly hold on to. I need to hear over and over to step aside, get out of my own way, and let my children flourish like they already are. Oh, and to remember to really laugh more!!

Love hearing your voice and seeing you in “real life.” Our children already know how to grow up. Love that. It resonates with me and my thoughts about unschooling. Children don’t need to go to school to be taught, they learn everyday when we trust in them and in life. Thanks for sharing and smiling.

Thank you Karen for taking the time to put your face, your laugh, your daughter and your home into this answer. It’s so good to see you and hear you.

Thank you. It’s nice to see your smile and hear your voice (and laugh). Your message brought me comfort as I muddle through these toddler days. I am learning to look my little one for guidance, slowly but surely.

P.S. Your house is very clutterless! Inspiring.

Thank you for sharing a peak into your life. It was inspiring on many levels; I love how you are quick to laugh and seem so at ease. I don’t feel like that very often, but I suppose that is what practice is for. Love.

Dear Karen,
Nice to see you talk, and smile! After first reading your books. My problem is that I cannot find the trust you are referring to. My children fight a lot! And I am constantly anxious that they might hurt eachother. I am so tired of their fighting, bickering, and negative attitude. I do not want this.
And yet, there is no other way. But it’s hard to stay with this pain.
Well, sorry to bother you, warm regards,
Nienke
