Perhaps it was
the new game the new speakers the new camera
the boxes the manuals the cords
the plastic the paper the ribbon
the fudge the cookies the cinnamon sugar
the sour cream in the enchiladas
the tres leches
one leche alone wouldn’t do
the coffee the soda the wine
the puzzle on the coffee table
300 pieces
a pair of rat terriers under your skin
27 pieces left and I can’t quit
although I’m done
marinated, roasted and fried
so in this idle between one holiday and the next
I’m ducking out as is my custom
to quietly come undone
because every year is the same and I know it:
happiness is simple
everything we do to find it is complicated.

Ducking out
to quietly come undone =
The only gift I really wanted.

The last two lines are my favorite–a good reminder this time of year.

for the first time in my life i refused to over do it. i said no a lot. i didn't buy buy buy, but instead i made made made. the end result, peace. happiness truly is simple.
wish i could join you. but also looking forward to observing the new year right here and now. 😉

Thank you for your lovely post.
Before my children were born (and while pregnant)I spent several New Years Eve's on silent retreat in the Colorado desert.
wish you the place and the peace to quietly come undone.

So I was thinking about going to church but since I don't have one exactly I decided to come here.
And found this thought:
happiness is simple
everything we do to find it is complicated
Perfect. Refreshing. Thank you!
