A little something under the tree

December 5th, 2008

Dear Santa,
For Christmas I would like an American Girl doll that looks like me. Here are other things that I would like: Puppy, iPhone, and an adopted sister.

(And a whole lot more that I forgot.)

Love,
Georgia Miller

Editor’s Note: 1 out of 4 and a new pair of socks.

  2. I cannot believe there are dolls that look like me. You don’t know how hard it was to find a pale skinned, black haired baby when I was little. Every single doll was blond/blue eyed.

I should be looking for my dark blond blue eyed daughter, but she’s too young for these anyway.

And I already found her a doll for christmas. I love it, too.

  4. Holy cow Karen! That is the exact same one I wanted to get Jillian (Jillian and Georgia look a lot alike.) Instead she picked out one that looks like me. I thought that was odd. It just came in the mail a couple of days ago.

  5. I grew up as an only child (my sibs were almost a generation older and lived in a different home). I used to beg my mother to adopt a sibling for me (I told her I didn’t even care if it was a BOY). I think that’s probably why I have three kids.

  7. My daughter wants one of those dolls, too. She actually filled out the form, circling the eyes, skin, and hair color, and the hair style.

She is almost six years old.

  8. Georgia has *several* of these dolls, and very generous relatives too, since I would flinch to buy another. However, this is the first time she has been swayed by one that resembles her so closely, instead of swept up in the stories of the others. There is a place for stories, but I can see how she is growing into full comfort and possession of the girl she really is.

And not least: I so much appreciate the biological practicality and specificity of an *adopted* sister.

Thank you all, as always, for your comments, which are love drops.
